Thursdays 4:00 - 4:55 PM January 9 - May 8 No class March 20 Recital is Thursday May 8 The skills targeted in this class are: Public speaking and confidence Improvisational skills, including quick thinking, sharing the stage, and Creativity and self-expression Physical and vocal acting skills Class Breakdown: Circle Time - At the beginning of each class, everyone sits in a circle and gets a chance to share. If the class is relatively small, each child will tell a story about their day/weekend/etc. By the end of the semester, the child’s ability to tell a cohesive story improves immensely. Bippity Boppity Boo - After Circle Time, the kids may be antsy and excited to move. Bippity Boppity Boo serves as a physical warm up and great way to practice quick thinking, a skill that is necessary for building improvisational skills. Improv Games - During the class, the instructor may lead improv games of various natures. These can range from silly group activities that can help build quick thinking, confidence, and physical acting skills to more individual games that give students opportunities to perform an improvised skit in front of their peers. Fundamental Theater Terminology - While in class, students will learn basic theater terminology, such as parts of a stage, typical script terminology, common rehearsal etiquette and vocabulary, and will practice proper audience etiquette. Character - Students will flex their creative muscles and build their physical and acting skills through various activities that will require students to become their character on stage. This includes games and in-class performances for students to choose or be assigned characters that they can portray both physically and vocally. Plot Structure - Students will learn the basic structure of a plot in order to better understand the structure of plays and what makes a compelling story for improv. Star Ceremony - At the end of the day, each child will get a chance to have their own special moment. Class requires a minimum of 3 registered students to avoid cancellation.
